Madrasi Patissa with an exemplary wootz blade. The Patissa is a South Indian early remnant of what later became the Khanda, these early forms have a rounded tip and a subtle taper to its double edged blade and most often no knuckle guard. Later developed by the Sikhs in Punjab into a more harshly tapered form with a diamond shaped tip of the blade. Similar to those we see used by Guru Gobind Singh Ji at the Amrit Sanchar of Vasakhi in 1699, and wielded by Baba Deep Singh Ji Shaheed in the defence of Sri Harimandar Sahib.
